Coraline

I am going to go ahead and post instead tonight.

What do you guys think about this book? Are you lovin' it or not? I'm not loving this book at all. Let's be honest here...the book is creepy. I think it's the pictures that get me, they look so weird and scray. It reminds me of those "scray ghost story" books that you would read as a little child. I was the child that read that book when it was complete daylight outside with friends, too creepy to read alone.
The whole book seems rather odd to me as well? The mice whisper and sing this creepy song? Who goes and talks to mice hiding under a bed? There is this part on page 31 when she is at "other mothers' house" and she is talking to the mice. She asks them if they can talk and what they do and in response they say this back to her:
"We have teeth and we have tails
We have tails and we have eyes
We were here before you fell
You will be here when we rise"

when i read that section it seemed as if the mice were preparing her because they were going to take over. Apparently they were just preparing for the circus they were going to perform. Yeah, that makes much more sense. Again..a very intresting and odd book.

I think the whole "other mothers' house" is creepy. Everything on that side of that other world is distorted and strange. For example, her parents have buttons for eyes. The plus side is her parents in that house ackwoledge her and feed her real food vs. her real parents who are always too busy to spend time with her and either can't cook or cook something that a child her age definately won't eat. They also pronouce her name the correct way.

This book seems like a dark attempt at something like The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.
I can't say i would ever reccomend this book to anyone, and to be honest it has already gone in my "donate" area in my garage. I have a hard time doing illogical and creepy at the same time.

Skelling Reading

Let me be honest. I have not read the whole book yet. I just finished The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, this evening. I really loved that book. When i was younger i always had that dream that i had a secret door in my house that led to some cool place that i can go back and forth to. I think also because i read this book a lot as a child and seen the movie i was very much into the book.
Skelling is a bit erie. I don't know how else to say it. Part of me can seriosuly reason with Michael. When my family decided to move into out first house i was about 9 going on 10. The neighborhood was amazing, but the house was a dump and when i 1st seen it i refused to live there until it looked liveable. The backyard was this feild of weeds, and the inside of the house had massive holes in the walls, it was horrible. My parents decided we wouldn't live there until the house was in great shape. It took them almost a year and after that you couldn't tell it was ever a dump before, it fit in perfectly with the other houses in the area.
This book is definately pegged for young readers. I say this because the chapters are seriously short. I suppose it makes them feel accomplished to be able to say "i read 10 chapters", which anyone would think, "wow that's a lot of reading!" when really it's only 27 pages.
I do find it creepy that they have moved into a house where a person died. Under no circumstances is that okay with me. I would easily start freaking myself out.
It seems to me so far that Michael just feels like he is an outsider. Afterhe gets caught exploring the garage he says, "Then i went back into the wildreness we called a garden and she went back to the stupid baby(Almond, pg.5)."
I am not exactly sure who Dr. Death is. He says he calls him Dr. Death because of the way he looks. I haven't really gotten far into the book yet, as i said i just finished the previous book.

Wizard of Oz

Well since there no one posting anything I will. I finished the book. itis a good book but i think this is more of a book for teenager and not for kids. itis also not like disney movie. Like in some part of it. for example, the part where the Tin man was telling his story of how he became a Tinman. i like the book more than the movie because it has more detail and you actually get the whole book. i like how each characters has their own story and when i was little i was always frighten by that movie. if back then i was to read this book i would be awfully scared. anyways this book is a great book.
